Fixing a gummy smile with gum lifts or gum contouring
When patients have an overgrowth of gum tissue, the gums cover the teeth more than usual. This leads some patients to feel self conscious about their smile. However, it can be fixed with a gum lift or a gum contouring procedure.
The gum lift follows three steps:
- Gentle sedation is given to the patient to ensure maximum comfort.
- The dentist will gently raise the gums or remove part of the gum tissue typically by using a laser.
- The dentist will contour or reposition the gum line to result in a beautiful smile. This phase is known by several names (gum contouring, gum recontouring, gum reduction, gum contouring surgery, or gum reshaping), and it can be done on its own without the gum lift phase.
The gum lift and contouring procedures do not require a lot of healing or recovery time. This is due to the fact that gum tissue heals very quickly.
You’ll love your new smile!
After the contouring or lift procedure, your teeth will appear longer and more proportional to each other. This will create an even-looking smile. Your confidence will soar because of your radiant, beautiful smile!
